Description: Top Abstract Session: Will request submission of abstracts directed towards this special session for consideration of the award. Plan to present 3-4 of the top abstracts with allotted discussion time with the award granted at the conclusion of the session. Proposed award of $5000 pending STS Executive Approval. Abstract and award selection will be at the discretion of the Workforce on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion along with designated representatives from the STS Leadership.
1. To recognize and increase the visibility of individuals or organizations who have demonstrated innovative work towards advancing health equity for vulnerable populations within cardiovascular, oncologic, or congenital heart disease care.
2. Highlight examples of leadership in successful implementation of strategies and interventions to reducing disparities for the next round of future leaders including educational efforts to increase exposure and opportunities to students, trainees, allied health professionals, and junior surgeons.
: This session will require a special announcement for this STS Health Equity Excellence Award and the need to submit abstracts directed towards this award.

3 abstract presentations (12 minutes each, total time 36 minutes)
Panel discussion (15 minutes)
Award Presentation (4 minutes)
How would this proposed session improve competence, practice performance, or patient outcomes?: Through heightened visibility and demonstration of successful strategies, this session will build a growing network of cross-sector organizations and leaders and create a repository of projects that will serve as a resource portfolio for others seeking to do work in this area.
