Fellow
Tata memorial hospital, Maharashtra, India
I have completed my 3 year residency program in surgical oncology at Indo Amercian Cancer Hospital, Hyderabad, India in May 2018 and thereafter worked as a junior consultant, Surgical oncologist in the same institute. Presently I am working as a fellow in the Department of GI & HPB surgery in TATA memorial hospital, Mumbai. TATA memorial hospital is one of the biggest and oldest cancer centers in India, catering to cancer patients from not only India but also adjacent countries. During my 3 years of training in surgical oncology I have done and assisted cases of Head and Neck, Thoracic , Breast, Gastrointestinal , Hepato pancreatobiliary and Soft tissue cancers . I am from India. Oncological work until few years back was limited to only select few centers in India. But with increasing awareness among general public and government outreach initiatives the cancer detection and treatment numbers have increased steadily. My objective to visit SSO 2022 is to actually see and hear from other pioneering surgeons. Research training is something which is lacking in my country. Coming back and implementing research avenues discussed in the conference is something that I am looking forward to. We and many other institutions in India follow either NCCN guidelines. Although sometimes what be practice differs from what is in guidelines. Finding the reason behind this and modifying our practice accordingly would be one of the aims of my visit. Knowing what we are lacking and what others are doing differently will help me improve on myself and my institution. Not only gaining any new knowledge but also disseminating it would be my prime objective. Being able to attend the conference will be of great help in increasing my knowledge and advancing my understanding of cancer treatment.
