Heather McArthur, M.D., M.P.H., is an Associate Professor and Clinical Director of the Breast Cancer Program in the Division of Hematology and Oncology and Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center. Dr. McArthur joined UT Southwestern in 2021 from Cedar Sinai Medical Center (CSMC), where she served as Medical Director of Breast Oncology from 2018-2021. As Clinical Director of the Breast Cancer Program her focus is on strengthening the delivery of breast cancer patient care experience. As an an accomplished investigator who also possesses expertise in immunotherapy clinical research strategies and the delivery of complex oncology patient care, her focus is both enhancing our delivery of care for breast cancer patients and expanding clinical research program for these patients.
Dr McArthur’s research focus is as a clinical research leader in the immunologic treatment of breast cancer. As a testimony to her work, Dr. McArthur has served on the Conquer Cancer Foundation of American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) YIA/CDA Grants Selection Committee, the ASCO Breast Cancer Symposium Program Committee, a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Breast Cancer Steering Committee Working Group, a NCI-Breast Cancer Steering Committee Immuno-Oncology Working Group, a NCI Breast Cancer Immuno-Oncology Task Force, a Breast International Group (BIG) Immunotherapy Taskforce, and an Alliance Immunotherapy/Immune Monitoring Working Group. Dr. McArthur has written more than 60 articles, review articles, invited commentaries, and book chapters on breast cancer. She has also received several notable awards for clinical research including the ASCO Cancer Foundation Merit Award in 2007 and 2009, The SASS Foundation for Medical Research, Inc., Eileen Dreyer Memorial Lecture Award, ASCO Advocacy Champion, as well as a Certificate in Excellence in recognition of being in the top 10% nationally in patient experience performance of all physicians in the breast cancer specialty from Cedars Sinai Medical Center.
