Austin D. Williams, MD MSEd earned his undergraduate degree in biochemistry and molecular biology from Franklin & Marshall College. Prior to studying medicine, he taught high school chemistry in the School District of Philadelphia as part of Teach For America, earned a Master’s in Education from the University of Pennsylvania and was recognized with the Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished High School Educators. He went on to earn his medical degree from Drexel University College of Medicine and then completed his general surgery residency at Lankenau Medical Center, where he was named the G.C. Engel Intern of the Year, was recognized for his teaching and research, and served as administrative chief resident. During residency, Dr. Williams completed a postdoctoral research fellowship at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania where he focused on breast cancer immunotherapy. His research was recognized by the American College of Surgeons with the Owen Wangensteen Excellence in Research Award and the American Society of Breast Surgeons with the Outstanding Scientific Presentation Award. Dr. Williams is currently a breast surgical oncology fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. His research interests include optimization of surgical education and disparities in cancer care, especially among racial and sexual minorities.
