Armando E. Giuliano, M.D., is Chief of Surgical Oncology, Associate Director of the Samuel Oschin Comprehensive Cancer Institute, Professor of Surgery, Program Director of both the breast oncology and surgical oncology fellowship programs, and the Linda and Jim Lippman Chair in Surgical Oncology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. He has been a clinician-researcher for over 40 years, has served as chairman of the Breast Organ Site Committee of the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group Breast Research Committee, and was author and principal investigator for the sentinel node Z0010 and Z0011 studies which led to significant changes to the standard of care for patients with early breast cancer. The main focus of his clinical research continues to be management of early breast cancer and quality of life of breast cancer patients. He is very active in teaching fellows and residents and has earned numerous teaching awards. He is a frequent speaker at national and international conferences and has authored more than 500 scientific articles and book chapters. Additionally Dr. Giuliano has served as president of both the Society of Surgical Oncology and the International Sentinel Node Society and serves on the American College of Surgeons Board of Governors. He has been the recipient of numerous national and international awards including the Veronesi Award for contributions to breast cancer research, the Glenn-Robbins Award, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure® Brinker Award for Scientific Distinction in Clinical Research, and Spain’s Sociedad Espanola de Senologia y Patologia Mamaria Medalla de Oro (Gold Medal).
