Dr Pelton is currently Chief, Surgical Oncology and Surgical Endocrinology, Mary Washington Hospital and Mary Washington Health Care, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He completed undergraduate studies at UCLA, followed by a medical degree from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Scienes in Bethesda, Maryland. He then completed General Surgery Residency at the Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas, followed by a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia. Dr Pelton served a full career in the US Air Force at its two largest medical centers and residency programs, retiring at the rank of Colonel. After the military Dr Pelton served as Medical Director of the Mercy San Juan Cancer Center in Sacramento, California, followed by 14 years on the Surgical Oncology Service at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC. Dr Pelton has also completed a Masters Degree in Biotechnology at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, as well as an MBA in Health Services Management, also from Johns Hopkins University. Dr Pelton also currently serves as an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. His clinical practices focuses on general surgical oncology, pancreatic/hepatobiliary surgery and surgical endocrinology, with current research interests in the prognostic value of gene expression profiling in melanoma, localizing techniques in parathyroid surgery, and the molecular profiling of solid organ tumors as it relates to clinical outcomes.
