Dr Maithel has led multiple research collaborations that all have been very productive. He also plays a large role in academic mentorship for his colleagues and trainees at Emory. He is actively leading efforts to conduct national clinical trials in HPB oncology such as EA2197 Optimal Perioperative Therapy for Incidental Gallbladder Cancer (OPT-IN): A Randomized Phase II/III Trial, which is actively accruing and enrolling patients. He is also an active member of the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation and is leading innnovative clinical trials in the neoadjuvant space for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma.
