Teresa Kim, MD, is a surgeon-scientist and Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Washington/Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Dr. Kim has expertise in the management of sarcomas, melanomas, and other skin and soft tissue cancers. Dr. Kim completed general surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital, as well as a postdoctoral research fellowship in tumor immunology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. She subsequently completed specialty training in Complex General Surgical Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering, after which she was recruited to join the faculty at UW. She currently divides her time between the clinical care of patients with skin and soft tissue tumors and laboratory investigation of immune resistance mechanisms in the tumor microenvironment. She has developed expertise in a human tumor slice culture model, in which she is testing novel approaches to reprogram tumor-associated macrophages to stimulate anti-tumor T cell immunity. She is board certified by the American Board of Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and Society of Surgical Oncology, and an active member of multiple national organizations including the Society for the Immunotherapy of Cancer, American Association for Cancer Research, and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
