Melissa E. Hogg, MD MS, is the Director of HPB Surgery at Northshore University Hospital and Director of Advanced Robotic Training for the Grainger Center for Simulation and Innovation. She did her medical school and residency training at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL, and her fellowship and masters training in Medical Education and Clinical Research at the University of Pittsburgh, PA where she also had her first faculty appointment. She is faculty of the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and serves as Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency and Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship.
Dr. Hogg’s clinical practice specializes in abdominal cancers and has a focus in minimally invasive gastrointestinal surgery and performs robotic hepatobiliary surgery. In addition, Dr. Hogg develops programs in patient-centered outcomes research, comparative effective and cost analysis in minimally invasive and cancer surgery. Additionally, she has developed medical education programs centered on a proficiency-based robotic curriculum for fellows, residents, and additional surgeons looking to acquire skills utilizing the robotic platform and techniques. Her work aims to link how technical training and surgical education can improve patient outcomes using proficiency-based curriculums and surgical coaching.
