PD-1–targeting immune checkpoint inhibitors are now a core modality in the fight against high-risk stage III or resectable stage IV melanoma, and their use is supported by phase 3 evidence and current practice guidelines. Neoadjuvant therapy (including dual checkpoint blockade), earlier use of adjuvant checkpoint inhibition in stage II disease, and the promise of novel immune-based treatment (such as regimens with LAG-3–targeting components) in surgical settings comprise other rapidly emerging applications of immunotherapy in resectable melanoma.
