Patients with bulky and advanced colon and rectal cancer may have disease extension outside the standard resection planes. In these cases, the surgeon must appreciate the need for extended resection and/or multivisceral resection to ensure complete tumor clearance. During this session, the rationale, indication and outcome of extended colorectal resection including complete mesocolic excision, multivisceral resection, extramesorectal excision and lateral pelvic sidewall resection will be discussed.
