Dr. Brock is a thoracic surgeon and the Dr. E.F. Gordon Professor of Surgery and Oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In addition to an active surgical practice, he has a large laboratory studying early detection biomarkers of lung cancer, epigenetics, immunology, and their relationship to thoracic malignancies. He was also the co-director of the SPORE Lung Cancer Biospecimen Core for over 10 years and has collected thousands of annotated clinical specimens from lung cancer patients including blood and sputum from time of surgery every three months to time of recurrence. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts and over 30 book chapters on thoracic surgery including a recent senior author publication in Nature offering an alternative adjuvant approach to treat metastatic recurrence after surgery focusing on the soil of cancer rather than the seed.
