Dr. Carol Swallow is a Professor in the Department of Surgery and Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto, and a surgical oncologist specializing in the management of abdominal sarcomas. Prof Swallow works in the Department of Surgical Oncology at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, University Health Network, and the Division of General Surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto. Dr. Swallow was appointed the Bernard and Ryna Langer Chair of General Surgery at the University of Toronto in 2014, and re-appointed in 2019. She is an associate member of the Lunenfeld Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health System, with a cross appointment to the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. In addition, Dr. Swallow is the Section Editor, Sarcoma for the Annals of Surgical Oncology. Dr. Swallow is the founding Governor for the Ontario Chapter of the American College of Surgeon, as well as Chair of the Committee on Applicants, and Co-Chair of the Domestic Chapter Member Services Pillar. Dr. Swallow is the Secretary of the Connective Tissue Oncology Society. She has been recognized by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with the status of Founder for the sub-specialty of Complex Surgical Oncology. Dr. Swallow’s translational laboratory research interests focus on cancer cell invasion and metastasis, including the cellular behaviors that lead to tumour seeding and recurrence after curative resection.
