Dr. Kim received his MD in 1998 from the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He trained in general surgery at the University of Cincinnati, and then completed a three-year fellowship in surgical oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute. Following his training, Dr. Kim joined the City of Hope National Medical Center in 2006, where he rose to the rank of associate professor of surgery. He led the Upper GI Tumor Service and was Program Director of the ACGME-accredited complex general surgical oncology fellowship program. Dr. Kim was subsequently recruited to the State University of New York and then to the University of Kentucky as tenured Professor of Surgery and Chief of Surgical Oncology. He also holds the position of Medical Director of the Multidisciplinary Clinic of Markey Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center. Dr. Kim is an active surgeon-scientist. Currently, he is the principal investigator of three investigator-initiated clinical trials assessing novel drugs and treatment strategies in patients undergoing heated intraperitoneal chemotherapy and novel I/O regimens in patients with advanced pancreatic cancer. Dr. Kim's laboratory has been funded by NIH and American Cancer Society research awards.
