Dr. Rosa Hwang is a Professor at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center with joint appointments in the Departments of Breast Surgical Oncology and Surgical Oncology. She is a surgeon scientist with clinical expertise in breast cancer surgery and she has a funded laboratory research program in breast and pancreatic cancer. Dr. Hwang has a particular interest in novel strategies to individually tailor surgical treatments for breast cancer patients to reduce morbidity and optimize oncologic outcomes. She is the site Principal Investigator of a multi-institutional clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of robotic-assisted nipple sparing mastectomy for patients at increased risk for breast cancer (NCT03892980). Her laboratory focus is on the role of the tumor-associated stroma on tumor progression, metastasis and resistance to chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
