Dr. Susan Hoover is Senior Member of Breast Surgical Onoclogy at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, and Professor of Surgery in the Department of Oncologic Sciences, Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. She specializes in Breast Surgical Oncology and is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. She graduated from The University of Texas Southwestern (UTSW) Medical School in Dallas, Texas, then completed general surgery residency also at UTSW/Parkland Memorial Hospital. She then completed a breast fellowship at UTSW's Interdisciplinary Fellowship of Breast Oncology. Dr. Hoover has practiced both in the academic and private practice arenas. She has held faculty positions at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, and now at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. She is heavily involved in the teaching and training of fellows, residents and medical students, for which she was honored with faculty teaching awards. Dr. Hoover holds committee appointments at the national level for the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Breast Surgeons, Association of Women Surgeons and Southeastern Surgical Congress. She also is a Governor of the American College of Surgeons. At the Florida state level, she is President Elect and Executive Council Member of the Florida Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Hoover has been involved in clinical research serving as Principal Investigator for projects involving evaluation of breast surgical margins, patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes in breast surgical patients. She is an expert in minimally invasive breast surgical procedures and instructs surgeon-directed breast ultrasound and ultrasound guided procedures. Dr. Hoover has a robust breast surgical practice performing surgery for both benign and malignant breast diseases. She has been elected by her peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® since 2009.
