I was born in Paraguay, South America and moved to the United States after completing high school to pursue a degree in Microbiology/Pre-Med. Early on in my career I took an interest in personalized medicine and molecular therapies, which I strongly believe is the future of medicine, and wanted to be a part of this movement. I’m currently focusing on studying brain tumor biology and exploring new ways to treat brain cancer. My work involves studying the genetic and epigenetic (e.g. miRNAs and DNA methylation events) mechanisms involved in establishing and promoting brain tumor formation and understanding the contribution of stem-like cells to this process. Our goal is to use this knowledge to develop new approaches that will ultimately impact diagnosis and treatment of brain cancer.
