Dr Elizabeth Ogando-Rivas is a neurosurgeon graduated from the Universidad Autónoma de Mexico – Hospital General de Mexico. After completion of her neurosurgery training in 2016, Dr Ogando has received additional training in Neuro-Oncology, Pediatric Neurosurgery and Endoscopic Skull Base Fellowship under the mentorship of renowned physicians such as Drs Alfredo Quiñones-Hinojosa, James Goodrich and Theodore Schwartz, respectively. She has an outstanding record of academic achievements that include the International Outreach Scholarship awarded by the Society for Neuro-Oncology and more recently, the Young Neurosurgeon Award from the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies. She is leading a WFNS' project to improve the quality of neurosurgery through the creation of fellowships in low and middle income contries. Dr Ogando has authored and co-authored more than 12 manuscripts, two book chapters and more than 20 posters presented at national and international meetings.
Currently, she is at the McKnight Brain Institute – University of Florida mentored by Dr Duane Mitchell who is a pioneer in the development of promising adoptive cellular therapy approaches to treat patients with high-risk brain tumors. Her research focuses on optimizing the use of checkpoint inhibitors in combination with adoptive cellular therapies to improve brain tumor patient outcomes.
