Matt Sherwood (MRes, BSc) is a third-year PhD student at the University of Southampton (UoS). Employing a mixture of wet-lab and omic-based approaches, Matt is researching how the Zika virus can be utilised as a potential new therapy to treat aggressive childhood brain tumours and neuroblastoma. Through his undergraduate and master’s degrees, Matt has a strong background in biochemistry, neuroscience and stem cell biology. Recently, Matt completed a two-year Senior Research Assistant and Lab Manager position at UoS, during which he secured PhD funding to allow him to continue his research in the Ewing Lab.
