Thomas Look M.Sc., born in Germany, is a PhD student affiliated with the Laboratory of Molecular Neuro-Oncology at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) and University of Zurich (UZH) and specialized in translational neuro-oncology with a focus on immunotherapies including immunocytokines. He studied biology at the Rheinische Westfälische Hochschule Aachen (RWTH) with Molecular Cell Biology as major and a personal focus on cancer biology. During his study he had the chance to have insights in different fields and extent his practical laboratory skills at the University Hospital Aachen (UKA) as a research assistant. His employers include the Institute of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Pathology Institute, the Department of Stem Cell Biology and Cellular Engineering and the Department of Cell Biology at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering. There he studied among other mast cell signaling and dendritic cell differentiation with the help of CRISPR/Cas9 and ATAC-seq. To broaden his horizon he also went to renowned cancer research centers and worked as a trainee at the Beckman Research Institute at City of Hope in Duarte, CA and at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) in Heidelberg. There he could extend his knowledge in understanding the tumor microenvironment, STAT3 mediated tumor progression and tumor angiogenesis. In 2020 he moved to Zurich in Switzerland to apply his aquired knowledge as a PhD student in translational cancer research. His current focus is on immunotherapies against glioblastoma including immunocytokines and multifunctional CAR T cells. Together with Dr. Tobias Weiss he studies those treatments in preclinical mouse models and further investigates their effect on the tumor microenvironment to better understand the mode of action and improve their efficacy.
