Bente Sandvei Skeie, MD, PhD is currently working as a board certified neurosurgeon at the Department of Neurosurgery at Haukeland University hospital in Bergen, Norway. She has a special interest in Gamma knife surgery, trained by Jeremy Ganz and is one of 4 certified Gamma knife surgeons in Norway. In 2014 she defended her PhD thesis: “Gamma Knife Surgery for Intracranial Tumours – Clinical and Experimental studies” and has later divided her time half and half between clinical work and research mainly related to cerebral tumors and Gamma knife treatment. Her project as postdoctoral fellow is “Gamma Knife Surgery for Brain Cancer – Radiosensitizers and Imaging techniques to improve treatment Efficacy”. She was granted a 1 year overseas fellowship to work at the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research in New York and is currently PI for an ongoing phase 1 trial funded by the Norwegian Cancer Society investigating sulfasalazine as a potential radiosensitizer for gamma knife treatment of recurrent glioblastoma.
