Dr. Mahua Dey, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurological Surgery and Director of Surgical Neuro-Oncology Program at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Dey specializes in surgical management of both benign and malignant brain and spinal cord tumors, including gliomas, meningiomas, acoustic tumors, pituitary tumors, metastatic brain cancer, and other skull base tumors. She has special interest in malignant brain tumors involving eloquent areas of the brain requiring awake and functional mapping, stereotactic radiosurgery, and minimally invasive brain surgery.
Dr. Dey earned her bachelor’s degree at the University of Houston in Houston, Texas, and her medical degree from the Baylor College of Medicine, also in Houston. At the University of Chicago Section of Neurosurgery, she completed her residency in neurological surgery and a post-doctoral fellowship in neuro-oncology. She was a practicing surgical Neuro-oncologist at Indiana University School of Medicine and Goodman Campbell Brain and Spine for four years prior to joining the Department of Neurosurgery at UW.
In addition to clinical work, Dr. Dey has a robust research background and conducts basic/translational research in neuro-oncology dedicated to finding cutting edge novel therapeutic intervention for patients suffering from malignant brain tumor. Her active basic science immunotherapy laboratory, that is investigating immunotherapy and vaccine strategies for malignant brain tumors, is funded by NIH and various other sources.
