Anthony is a PhD Candidate in the Department of Neurosciences and the Department of Neurological surgery. Anthony joined the lab of Dr. Andrew E. Sloan in July of 2019. Anthony’s research explores immune responses and signaling mechanisms activated by the tumor microenvironment, specifically in glioma malignancies. His current focus is exploring the bidirectional relationship between glioma stem cells and platelets. Anthony obtained his B.S in Neuroscience from Westminster College, where he worked in a Behavioral Neuroscience laboratory exploring the pharmacokinetic interaction between methylphenidate and ethanol in a rodent model of ADHD. Anthony then worked in the primate laboratory of Dr. Omar Gharbawie, in the Department of Neurobiology, at the University of Pittsburgh. There, he studied the columnar organization of the motor cortex in nonhuman primates. Upon beginning his Ph.D at Case Western Reserve University, Anthony worked in the Neuro-Oncology lab of Eli. E. Bar, where he was introduced to the field of neuro-oncology, glioma stem cells, and mechanisms activated by signals in the tumor microenvironment.
