University Hospital Basel
Basel, Switzerland
My name is Gregor Hutter, MD PhD, and I currently work as a neurosurgeon and research group leader at the University Hospital Basel in Switzerland.
I graduated from the University of Zurich, Switzerland in 2008 with a joint MD-PhD degree in molecular biology and immunology. My PhD project focussed on the immunology of prion diseases. I then completed my neurosurgery residency in Basel and Lucerne with Swiss board certification in 2013 and worked as an attending neurosurgeon in Lucerne, Switzerland. In October 2014, I joined Stanford University Medical School to study tumor-associated microglia and macrophages in malignant brain tumors as well as their therapeutic modulation in vivo. Back in Basel, I am a physician-scientist in clinical neurosurgery and brain tumor immunotherapy with the aim to find novel treatments against malignant glioma. I currently lead a translational research group focussing on innate immune modulation, targeting microglia and macrophage specific factors in the glioma context.
