Dr. Dionysios (Dennis) Watson, MD, PhD is a Medical Oncology Fellow at University Hospitals - Case Western Reserve University, and visiting researcher at the Cleveland Clinic. He is a physician-scientist dedicated to discovering and therapeutically targeting protumorigenic interactions in the tumor microenvironment. His postdoctoral research in the laboratory of Dr. Justin Lathia (Cleveland Clinic) focuses on elucidating metabolic interactions between brain-resident cells and glioblastoma, and developing bacteria-derived extracellular vesicles as a novel form of immunotherapy. He completed his PhD training at the National Cancer Institute, where he worked on translational development of the immunostimulatory cytokine, heterodimeric interleukin-15, including the first-in-human clinical trial. His work has been supported by institutional training grants, VeloSano foundation grants, and the NCI Director’s Innovation Award. He also received the Federal Technology Transfer Award for his work on engineered extracellular vesicles for delivery of cytokines. He is first-author on 11 peer-reviewed manuscripts, and his work has been cited more than 5,000 times.
