Aaron Diaz, PhD is an Associate Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and a Primary Investigator in the UCSF Brain Tumor Center. Dr. Diaz did his graduate work in mathematics and computer science at Cornell University and later received postdoctoral training in molecular and cellular biology at UCSF. The core competencies of the Diaz lab include bioinformatics and genomics, combined with traditional molecular approaches. The Diaz lab has pioneered the use of single-cell analyses of clinical specimens for basic and translational research. His work has identified the role of ontogeny in shaping the activation of immune cells in the brain-tumor microenvironment, elucidated the effect of therapy on glioma composition at recurrence, and demonstrated the utility of single-cell assays in the design of combinatorial treatment strategies.
