Helen Shih, MD, MS, MPH, FASTRO is a radiation oncologist with multiple interest in clinical care, research, education, and administrative leadership. She is a Professor of Radiation Oncology at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. Her clinical practice comprises of patients with malignant and benign CNS and ocular tumors and additional nontumor conditions that may benefit from radiation therapy. Her research interests reflect her patient population, specifically to improve patient care and outcomes, reduce radiation treatment related toxicity, and to advance radiotherapy tools with specific attention to the role of proton therapy. She is the Medical Director of the MGH Proton Therapy Centers. She is actively involved in the America Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) as prior Senior Editor of the CNS section of the Red Journal, current CNS chair of the scientific program at the ASTRO Annual Meeting, chair of ASTRO guidelines for radiation therapy for management of IDH mutant gradde 2 and 3 gliomas, and led the ACR/ASTRO guidelines for use of proton radiation therapy. She has been recent elected as the next radiation oncology representative for the SNO Board of Directors. Beyond radiation oncology, Dr. Shih has a second passion in drug addiction which spans education, prevention, treatment, community leadership, and research.
