During the final year of my bachelor degree at the University of Leon, I studied the role of mitophagy in aging. After I finished my bachelor degree, I obtained a master degree at the University of Basque Country focused in the development of a rat inflammatory dry eye model induced by topical administration of benzalkonium chloride. I am currently doing my PhD in the lab of Dr. Alonso studying the action of AbTIM-3 monoclonal antibody as a strategy for the treatment of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPGs). Results from this work revealed that the intratumorally injection of the antibody instigated an inflammatory response that ultimately resulted in an increase in the overall survival in two DIPG immunocompetent orthotopic models, led with a 50% of long-term survivors free of disease, and showed immune memory. Moreover, we observed that the tumor microenvironment suffered changes in both myeloid and lymphoid compartment. Our ultimate goal is to test our treatment in a Phase I clinical trial for DIPGs.
