Cecilia Krona is a scientist with a focus on cell biology and neurooncology. With an MSc in molecular biology and a Ph.D. in clinical genetics from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, Cecilia trained as a postdoc at the Ludwig Institute at the University of California San Diego and the medical faculty in the Karolinska Institute with a focus on cell biology and neurooncology. Cecilia joined the Nelander group at Uppsala University in 2014, where she has since worked as a senior scientist and project coordinator on several multi-disciplinary systems biology projects.
Throughout her professional experience, Cecilia has successfully learned and applied various techniques to study drug response and the underlying cellular mechanisms. She has been involved in establishing and validating a broad range of model systems for preclinical studies (e.g. GEMMs of neuroblastoma, medulloblastoma and glioblastoma, orthotopic glioblastoma transplantation models, zebrafish- and chicken chorioallantoic membrane based models and primary cell cultures) as well as executing single and combination treatment studies.
As a scientist, Cecilia is curious and enjoys tackling problems from different angles. She also looks forward to new challenges and getting more engaged in the commercialization, and clinical trials process as projects mature into the phase where ideas and results become products, both as scientific papers and as services or treatments which will be helpful to other people. Cecilia believes that another perk of working in science is getting to know people worldwide. As part of a systems biology group, she is stimulated by interaction with colleagues and collaborators of various backgrounds. Further, she believes that traveling and experiencing other cultures make us grow as humans, and she feels privileged that this is a part of her job.
