Devan Diwanji, PhD is a physician-scientist trainee at UCSF currently in his last year of medical school and an aspiring radiologist. He is passionate about molecular and functional imaging in the context of cancer, increasing diversity in the healthcare workforce, and integrated team-based science. From his hometown in San Diego, CA, Devan ventured northward to Stanford where he completed his degree in Biology and became pasionate about decoding molecular function from structure and cell signaling. Inspired by the synergy between the clinic and benchside research, Devan pursued his MD/PhD training at UCSF where he continued to build his structural biology expertise in cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM). In his PhD, Devan implemented new technologies to solve the first molecular snapshots of the active oncogenic HER2/HER3 heterocomplex and discovered novel receptor states that challenge models of HER receptor signaling. His work on oncogenic signaling and single-particle imaging motivates Devan to develop new functional imaging biomarkers/theranostics and understand radiomic-genomic relationships to facilitate patient care.
