Tobias Walbert, MD, PhD, MPH is the medical director of the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center at Henry Ford Hospital Detroit and associate professor of neurology at Wayne State University.
Dr. Walbert earned his medical degree and PhD (Dr. med.) summa cum laude in neuro-anatomy about Vitamin D receptors in the brain from the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to attend Harvard University and received his master’s degree in Public Health focusing on health care management, decision analysis and quality of life assessment.
Dr. Walbert continued his clinical training in neurology and researching quality of life in neurological diseases at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University in Bonn, Germany and at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH. He was awarded the honor of serving as chief resident. Dr. Walbert trained in neuro-oncology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston before joining Henry Ford Health in Detroit.
Dr. Walbert has published research articles in numerous peer-reviewed journals and is interested in clinical/translational research and clinical trials. His research focuses on finding new treatments to end brain tumors, but especially on improving quality of life, palliative care and symptom management in brain tumors and neurological diseases. He is the co-director of the Balakrishnan Neuro-Palliative Care Program at Henry Ford Health.
