Priya Kumthekar, MD, is an associate professor of Neurology (Neuro-oncology) and Medicine (Hematology and Oncology) at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Kumthekar joined Northwestern’s faculty following her residency in neurology (2011) and Latimer Fellowship in Neuro-Oncology (2012) at the McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University. She is a dedicated physician and clinical researcher who leads clinical trials with interests in treating both primary brain tumors, such as gliomas and meningiomas as well as brain metastases (mets) from systemic cancers. She has lead multiple investigator initiated studies and also serves as the Executive officer for the Alliance for Clinical trials Neuro Oncology Committee. While Dr. Kumthekar’s brain mets efforts have been across multiple cancer types, she is predominantly involved in breast cancer brain mets research including both brain parenchymal mets and leptomeningeal disease. Dr. Kumthekar has partnered with physician-scientists across the country to research leptomeningeal carcinomatosis, a rare complication of cancer in which the disease spreads to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Dr. Kumthekar is focused on providing novel care to her patients while also maintaining their quality of life.
