Isabelle M Germano, MD, MBA is a tenured professor of neurosurgery, neurology, and oncological sciences at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York. She is the Director of the Comprehensive Brain Tumor Program and Co-Director of the Radiosurgery Program at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Germano is the recipient of over 50 awards recognizing many aspects of her career as a leader in neurosurgery, including her clinical skills, her compassionate care and communication skills, her research, her pioneering work in image-guidance, brain tumor and movement disorders, her dedication to education, and mentorship to women and minorities in medicine. Dr. Germano has served in multiple committees within the AANS, CNS, and many other neurosurgery/neuroscience societies. She is the AANS/CNS Section on Tumors Chair (2022-2024). She served as Chair of the Education and Training Committee within the WFNS for 4 years, has been appointed for maximum terms as a voting member of the FDA for neurological devices, and has been reviewer and co-chair within NIH/NCI Study sections.
Dr. Germano is a physician-scientist with extensive clinical expertise in the surgical and medical treatments of human brain tumors, and long-standing experience in the study of glioma biology and the design of novel therapeutic approaches. Her translational lab has been funded by NIH/NCI, FDA, private foundations, and industry. She served as PI of a NIH/NCI R01, Co-I of multiple NIH/NCI R01, and PI and Co-I of multiple foundation and industry grants.
Dr. Germano’s has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles, authored six neurosurgery books and 22 chapters. She served as JNS Neurosurgical Focus topic editor for an issue on International Neurosurgery Education (2020), and guest editor for AANS Neurosurgeons for 3 issues on Diversity (Winter 2021). She serves on several Editorial boards, including Neuro-Oncology, World Neurosurgery, and Journal of Neurooncology.
