Dr. Chenn Zhou received her Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1991 and joined PNW in 1994 after three years of industrial experience. Dr. Zhou has 40 years of experience in the areas of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), energy, and air pollution control. She is on the cutting edge in the integration of advanced computer simulation and visualization for solving industrial problems. She established the Center for Innovation through Visualization and Simulation (CIVS) in 2009 and the Steel Manufacturing Simulation and Visualization Consortium (SMSVC) in 2016. Dr. Zhou has conducted a large number of funded research projects and collaborated with over 160 organizations, which have generated significant educational and economic impacts. Dr. Zhou has published over 450 technical papers and abstracts and five copyrighted CFD codes. Dr. Zhou has received numerous awards including the 2004 R&D 100, the 2005 American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Medal, the 2010 J. Keith Brimacombe Memorial Lecture by Association of Iron and Steel Technology (AIST), and the 2017 AIST Hunt-Kelly Outstanding Paper Award – First Place, 2020 AIST President Citation award, and 2021 AIME Honorary Membership award. She received the awards of PNW Outstanding Faculty in Teaching (1999), Research (1999), Sponsored Research (2006), and Engagement (2017). Dr. Zhou has served in various AIST committees including AIST Foundation Trustee from 2011 to 2017. Dr. Zhou has been an ASME Fellow as well as AIST Distinguished member and Fellow.
