Dr. Kimberly Wagoner is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. She is the Co-Director of the Southeast Prevention Technology Transfer Center, one of ten regional centers funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Her research focuses on understanding environmental contexts that shape alcohol, tobacco and cannabis use with the goal of informing public policy and practice. Dr. Wagoner has led studies funded by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) to understand how novel products, such as e-cigarettes and CBD products, are marketed to consumers in the retail environment. Her work has informed regulatory actions of the FDA to ensure consumers are not misled about these products and has been cited in the 2016 Surgeon General’s Report, E-cigarette Use among Youth and Young Adults.
