Tom Hanchett is a community historian in Charlotte who worked before retirement at Charlotte Mecklenbuurg Historic Landmarks Commission and Levine Museum of the New South. He earned degrees from Cornell, University of Chicago, and UNC Chapel Hill. Charlotte Magazine calls him “Charlotte’s Dr. History” and honored him as a Charlottean of the Year. He is currently completing a history of affordable housing. His writings on immigrant foodways, neighborhood development, roots music and more are at www.HistorySouth.org
