Margarete Bower is currently the Science Librarian at the Bevier Engineering Library at the University of Pittsburgh. Previously she was head of the Chemistry Library and Langley Library (life sciences), which were merged into the engineering library this academic year. She is also a chemist. At Pitt she has been involved in a variety of public service activities, the Research Data Management Working Group, and various committees. She was an adjunct co-instructor for the science reference class at the university’s library school for a number of years. Within SLA she served as secretary for the Chemistry Division and on its committee that produced the "Information Competencies for Chemistry Undergraduates: The Elements of Literacy." She has also been active in the SLA Pittsburgh community.
