Research Data Management Librarian
University of Utah
Daureen Nesdill started her career as an animal technologist at the Berson Research Lab at the Bronx VAMC working under Rosalyn Yalow, PhD and 1977 Nobel Laureate. Allergies to the animals forced her to reevaluate her career choice and she entered a graduate program at Auburn University to study behavioral and chemical ecology. A library assistantship supported Daureen through her studies and also piqued her interest in librarianship. This interest led Daureen to earn a MLIS from the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa in 2001. Daureen started her library career at the University of Utah in 2002 as a STEM librarian and moved into data management in 2009. During her career she was involved in numerous projects bringing information to the public; microfilming agricultural publications, Technical Reports and Image Library (TRAIL), Western Waters Digital Library, AgBioData, The Hive, and currently the Southern Right Whale Project. As the data management librarian, Daureen introduced electronic notebooks to librarians, nationwide and is responsible for bringing Labarchives to campus. She is responsible for teaching data management to faculty, staff and students and has been the Librarian for ACCESS Scholars for twelve years.
