Darra Ballance, MLIS, is the Director of Retention Programming and Technology for the Statewide Area Health Education Center (AHEC) Network at Augusta University (AU) in Augusta, Georgia. She is also a faculty member in the Robert B. Greenblatt, MD Library at AU. At the AHEC her work has focused on retention of health professionals in rural and underserved areas. Darra has worked at AU (formerly the Medical College of Georgia) since 2006. She is webmaster for the AHEC Network in Georgia and also manages the AHEC’s Facebook page. She is also the social media coordinator for the Biomedical and LIfe Sciences Community.
Before joining AU in 2006, Darra was a Senior Librarian at the Savannah River National Laboratory (a Department of Energy defense nuclear site) in Aiken, South Carolina from 1998-2005. During that time she served as chair-elect, chair and past chair of SLA’s Sci-Tech Division. Previously she worked as a hospital librarian at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia, from 1992-1998.
Darra received her Masters in Library and Information Science at the University of South Carolina, and a BA in English from the College of Charleston.
