Jennifer Garcon is the Librarian for Modern and Contemporary Special Collections at Princeton University, and a steering committee member of Archives for Black Lives in Philadelphia, an activist archivist group working with BIPOC communities and organizations in the Mid-Atlantic to save, document, and preserve their historical archives and records. Garcon’s work is centered upon preserving contemporary cultural heritage by engaging community-centered resource sharing and redistributive post-custodial practices. She has worked, written, and spoken broadly about the ethics and pedagogy of community-engaged projects, digital methodologies, data loss and technological obsolescence, and protecting and safeguarding historic archives in communities experiencing gentrification. Her work has been in partnership with the Library of Congress, The Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture, the Council on Library and Information Resources, and the Free Library of Philadelphia. Garcon holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Miami, and a BA in Literature and Gender and Sexuality Studies from Brown University.
