Librarian for Modern and Contemporary Special Collections Princeton University
Join us as we start day one with welcome remarks, awards and our opening keynote speaker.
We welcome Jennifer Garcon, Ph.D., the Librarian for Modern and Contemporary Special Collections at Princeton University Archive as our opening keynote. Dr. Garcon will discuss the complex position that institutions like Libraries, Archives, and Museums find themselves in when attempting to engage community partners. Good intentions, however, do not always yield impactful projects and happy collaborators. We will explore how to engage mindful and intentional design in developing ethical partnerships that avoid, rather than re-enforce, harm and disenfranchisement. Drawing on her experience with building post-custodial archival projects, Garcon will discuss how to integrate partnership practices that leverage library infrastructure for community use, foreground inclusion and equity, navigate power disparity between institutions and communities, and embarks on models of community-centered practices and shared governance.
