The Rhinostics Standard Nasal Swab is an innovative and proprietary nasal swab that boosts simplicity during sample collection and expediency during processing. The sterile polypropylene swab, including a unique caterpillar head design, is fully molded for a rapid manufacturing process that bypasses traditional swab supply chains. A notched breakaway snap point near the swab head facilitates insertion into most transport tube configurations, including the tube included in the Rhinostics Standard Nasal Swab Collection Kit. The high contrast blue color aids easy identification when included in self-collection or at-home swab test kits such as those used for COVID test and respiratory sample applications.
Productivity is boosted as soon as the sample is collected. Dry shipment means that viral transport media (VTM) is not necessary. VTM, originally used to feed virus for culture, is completely unnecessary for use with today’s sensitive polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assays such as a COVID PCR test. By eliminating VTM, labs can save on reagent costs, eliminate the risks of leaking or liquid biohazard contact, and bypass time-consuming concentration steps.
Unlike traditional flocked or wound fiber swabs that retain sample upon elution, the hydrophobic nature of this unique swab ensures rapid and complete sample elution without fail. In fact, the Rhinostics Standard Nasal Swab provides up to 30X sample concentration versus other swabs transported in VTM.
