Leveraging cloud services for mission critical or exploratory workloads is a strategic decision many manufacturers are considering. There are a host of considerations that must be addressed. In this presentation we will present high level introduction into the major considerations and the perspective provided will cover both internally developed assets/workloads but more importantly also the factors to consider when deploying critical commercial software in the cloud.
Further detail will be outlined in a paper.
Topics we will cover include – the importance of having an overall strategy for leveraging cloud, maturity of an organization from a development and IT perspective and how it plays a part in what path you choose, aspects to consider when you think about security and governance, knowing and controlling costs in a methodical manner, how to be cloud agnostic or distribute workloads for future proofing. From a deployment aspect we will present critical factors such as high availability and scalability requirements, provision for disaster recovery, SLAs, RPO & RTO factors. Finally, we will present factors for vendor selection for any commercial product/application that you will deploy in the cloud which you must ascertain before making your final selection.
