Matthew Kolb is a 2003 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned his commission as a military officer and a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Upon graduation, Matt received his master’s degree in the same field from Johns Hopkins University.
In January 2004, Matt reported aboard the Aegis destroyer USS OSCAR AUSTIN (DDG 79) where he served as First Lieutenant and Visit, Board, Search, and Seizure (VBSS) Boarding Officer, completing over 50 boardings in the Arabian Gulf and off the Horn of Africa in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In April 2005, he reported to Riverine Squadron ONE as Detachment 2 Assistant Officer in Charge and deployed to Al Anbar Province, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in May 2006. Upon his return, Matt received orders to the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California to serve as a Military Lecturer in the Computer Science Department.
Following his departure from Active Duty military service in February 2010, Matt joined Lam Research, a leading semiconductor manufacturing equipment company located in Fremont, California. As a member of the Etch product group, he was responsible for software and printed control board product management on all 300mm platforms. In 2013, after a corporate merger with Novellus, Matt became a part of the Global Products Engineering organization where he extended his product management responsibilities to the Clean and Deposition portfolios. In this capacity, he led efforts including obsolescence management, problem report and non-standard request prioritization, and the standardization of control systems across product lines. In 2016, Matt transitioned to Global Business Operations where he served as the manager of the project and analysis team within Global Field Operations (GFO). When the group moved to the Customer Support Business Group (CSBG) in 2017, his role expanded to include GFO in its entirety. He is responsible for global Field Service capacity planning, workforce labor execution efficiency, technical training, and CSBG Global Product Support (GPS).
During his tenure at Lam, Matt has also served simultaneously in the Naval Reserve. His positions have included Officer-in-Charge Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron 11 Detachment Bravo, where he mobilized and deployed to the United Arab Emirates in 2012, and Executive Officer of multiple other units, most recently at 7th Fleet where he is also led design thinking workshops for Department of Defense personnel around the world. In 2018, he assumed command of Coastal Riverine Squadron 11 Charlie Company, and led a group of more than 150 expeditionary Sailors charged with landward and seaward force protection of high value assets. He was recently selected for his second command assignment at Military Sealift Command (MSC) Ship Support Unit (SSU) Singapore located in Alameda, California.
