In today’s tight labor market human resources can sometimes become the ‘capacity’ bottleneck that is constraining a fab. For manual fabs, or fabs with only partial delivery automation, poor human resource utilization can negatively impact on time delivery and the downstream supply chain. Using Smart Manufacturing predictive capabilities, operators can be placed in the best position to maximize the utilization of factory capacity via optimization of staffing levels across the facility. Application of a digital twin can be used to coordinate the many elements in a factory and then decide the best action plan for its human resources. INFICON’s Labor Optimizer application enables visualization of operator requirements over the next shift. To accomplish this, the application examines the current tool and WIP schedule to forecast how many operators will be needed to meet the predicted delivery and tool loading demands. Using historical operator data, and tool performance KPI’s, the operations team can identify areas for improvement and adjust real time to changes on the factory floor.
