Smart textiles have an important role in next generation wearables in the fields of safety, communication, and physiological monitoring. The emerging smart textiles industry has numerous challenges that require modern performant silicon and sensors to integrate into novel flexible form factors.
Continued maturity of Flexible Hybrid Electronics (FHE), both in manufacturability and technological capability, offers a unique capability to help solve a number of these hurdles. In addition, the additive manufacturing nature of most of the processes presents the possibilities of field manufacturable tailored systems.
This talk will provide an overview of a rapidly designed and fabricated modular prototype system, that integrates FHE materials and methodologies into a textile solution, as well as the various print, assembly and integration techniques explored by NextFlex in a collaborative effort with AFFOA.
