Best practices for imaging and intervention in the axilla continue to evolve, making it a confusing topic for many of us. This session will briefly review how axillary imaging and management has evolved over time, with a focus on more recent management changes and options, including targeted axillary dissection. Cases will be used to illustrate abnormal lymph nodes on multiple modalities, as well as when biopsy or FNA are indicated. In addition, benign causes of axillary lymphadenopathy will be discussed, including reactive adenopathy from Covid vaccinations.
Learning Objectives:
Explain how imaging and management of the axilla has changed over time.
Describe abnormal imaging findings of axillary lymph nodes that warrant biopsy or FNA, as well as options for marking and localizing biopsied lymph nodes.
Compare the management approach for targeted axillary dissection vs sentinel lymph node biopsy.
