(CS-100) Bioactive Matrix Dressing; Case Studies on Efficacy When Applied on Partial Thickness Wounds
Co-Author(s):
Introduction: Bioactive matrix dressings have several advantages when treating cleanly debrided partial thickness wounds. This alternative wound product offers a transparent, adherent, flexible dressing that provides a moist environment for wound healing with the advantages of porosity, allowing moisture to pass to a secondary dressing that can be changed without interrupting the healing process. Other benefits include one-time application, either in the operating room or at bedside, and has unique sizes including gloves.
Methods: This is a case report/case series study comparing two patients with TENS and one patient with bullous pemphigoid resulting in partial thickness wounds with varying total body surface involvement that had the same bioactive matrix dressing applied. Photographic data was collected preapplication, during dressing changes, and once wound closure was achieved.
Results: The three patients achieved complete wound closure in less than 14 days utilizing this bioactive matrix dressing. None of the patients had any adverse effects to the product and the healthcare providers reported ease of application.
Discussion: This bioactive matrix dressing was shown to be a safe and effective alternative wound product for the patients in this study. Secondary outcomes demonstrated that the product was easy to apply by the healthcare provider, posed no significant risk to the patients and was well tolerated by the patients. In all three patients, wound closure was achieved in less than two weeks.
