Innovation Theater Breakfast (non-CME): Examining the Wound Hygiene Protocol as Best Practice in Healing Complex Wounds: An Illustrative Case Series

Hard to heal wounds typically have an uncertain healing trajectory caused by a combination of underlying host comorbidities and local impeding factors, such as microbial bioburden. Since its introduction in an International Consensus Document published in 2020, the Wound Hygiene protocol has been implemented in 35 countries as a standard of care in treating these complex wounds.
As clinicians embrace this 4-step protocol in hard to heal wounds, progression of dressing choice becomes key in moving these once static wounds toward closure. We will explore advanced wound dressing technologies used within the Wound Hygiene framework and the rationale used by clinicians for dressing choice.
