Although wound care clinicians appreciate that the management of edema is critical to healing, there is oftentimes a tendency for clinicians to treat wounds and edema separately. This perceived need for the division of care can result in the tunnel-vision approach to patient care. This session will discuss the impact of lymphedema and the lymphatic system on wounds and healing how wound care clinicians and those clinicians who specialize in lymphedema care can work collaboratively to improve patient outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify the clinical presenation of edema, lymphedema, obesity, lipedema and pheblolymphedema
Upon completion, participants will be able to identify components of modified complete decongestive therapeutic (CDT) program that can be incorporated into a plan of care for patients with lymphedema and a chronic non-healing wound.
Upon completion, participants will be able to recall resources for additional speciality training for lymphedema management
